About

The POTEP system has been developed to be transparent and effective, providing resources to enable the best possible training to peace operations personnel prior to deployment.

POTEP can be used for remote online learning, blended learning, or as resource modules integrated in a program that is delivered face-to-face.

Key Features

Transnational development

The Peace Operations Training Environment Partnership (POTEP) is an online training system that enables a network of likeminded nations to integrate and deliver a high regional standard of training in the support of United Nations Peace Operations.

Total control for Partners

The Peace Operations Training Environment Partnership (POTEP) is an online training system that enables a network of likeminded nations to integrate and deliver a high regional standard of training in the support of United Nations Peace Operations.

Proven platform

Built on a Moodle platform, POTEP has already been used to run international courses and has proven highly effective. A recent training program targeting women preparing for peacekeeping roles delivered through POTEP attracted 23 participants from across ASEAN nations and proved highly successful, culminating in the award of formal UN pre-deployment training recognition.

Built to maximise learning

The POTEP system has been developed based on years of experience in continuously assessing and improving course delivery modes to optimise effective learning.

While POTEP provides courses online, current courses are built with a focus on self-directed learning – so that each course participant can move through online modules at their own pace and in their own time. Daily interactive video-based classrooms are embedded into each course, but are kept to just one hour per day – meaning that courses are easier to accommodate across multiple time zones, and focus interactive time on building understanding and engaged learning.

Course modules have been developed from core and specialised United Nations resources and are brought to life for learners through online page design. To progress through learning materials, learners must scroll, click and read materials – ensuring high level engagement. This learning design has been refined by analysing learner feedback over a number of years.

In-built Record Keeping

Because record-keeping is built into the POTEP system, partner countries will be able to use the system when seeking United Nations recognition for their peace operations training courses. The POTEP system records class attendance, training materials used, staff time involved, assessment results for individual tasks and course completion records.

Student enrolment details are only accessible to course co-ordinators and staff nominated by each Partner – providing privacy protection between Partners.

POTEP’s record-keeping capabilities will be of particular interest to Partners seeking United Nations recognition for their training programs, as the system will provide evidence of participation, assessments and completion for all students, to demonstrate program effectiveness.

Live learning with the Big Blue Button

A video conferencing platform is built into POTEP, accessible through the system’s Big Blue Button. This simple connection mechanism enables course participants to connect quickly and easily to live teaching sessions, or to connect with classmates for groupwork.

Multi-lingual

POTEP offers opportunities to deliver courses in languages relevant to participants. Users can also choose the language they prefer for many elements of the POTEP portal, including key navigation information through the site. The POTEP system has been developed to be transparent and effective, providing resources to enable the best possible training to peace operations personnel prior to deployment. POTEP can be used for remote online learning, blended learning, or as resource modules integrated in a program that is delivered face-to-face.
